Congratulations to the Boundary Channel Drive at I-395 Interchange Shirley Project Team for receiving the Heavy Construction Contractors Association (HCCA) Infrastructure Award in the $10M-$20M category!
This VDOT design-build Project reconfigured the existing full cloverleaf interchange of Boundary Channel Drive and Interstate 395 in Arlington County, Virginia, to a partial cloverleaf interchange by eliminating redundant loop ramps and building two new roundabouts on either side of Interstate 395. Positioned between the Pentagon and Reagan National Airport, and just across the Potomac River from the District of Columbia, the Project introduced critical upgrades to an interchange that had been neglected any meaningful improvements since the 1960s. Chesterfield County Selects Shirley Contracting Company, LLC as the Lead Contractor for the Western Area Infrastructure Improvements Project. Dewberry Engineers Inc. will serve as the Lead Designer.
Construction of a four-lane roadway alignment connecting Duval Road to Westerleigh Parkway, including a bridge over Horsepen Creek providing access to three new public schools;
Widening a section of Duval Road from two to four lanes between the new roadway and Otterdale Road to improve the vertical alignment, shoulders, ditches and stormwater management facilities;
Loudoun County, in partnership with the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA), invites members of the public to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony October 28, 2024, to mark the completion of the county’s project to reconstruct and widen Belmont Ridge Road from Truro Parish Drive to Croson Lane.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) on Oct. 22 awarded a $58.6 million contract to Shirley Contracting Company LLC of Lorton, Virginia, to widen about four miles of Interstate 81 southbound near Strasburg. This project is part of the I-81 Corridor Improvement Program (CIP) to unlock I-81 by enhancing safety and reliability, reducing congestion and supporting economic growth. (more…)
Shirley held its official ribbon cutting ceremony for the Boundary Channel Drive at I-395 Interchange Design-Build Project in Arlington County, Virginia. Attendees included officials from Arlington County, VDOT, other local municipalities and the general public.
The project team reduced the roadway from four lanes to two lanes, converted two crossroad ramp terminals into roundabouts, constructed a sidewalk on the eastbound side, added a mixed-use path westbound side, and constructed a connection to the Mount Vernon Trail within National Park Service property. We are pleased to announce Shirley Contracting Company, LLC was recently awarded the Route 1 and I-95 Improvements at Exit 126 Design-Build Project by the Virginia Department of Transportation. This project is located in Spotsylvania County, Virginia and will include improvements to US 1 and I-95, including widening of US 1 from 4 to 6 lanes between the ramps to I-95 and the addition of a left turn lane from US 1 onto I-95 SB. The project also includes the addition of a left turn lane from US 1 onto I-95 NB. On I-95, this project includes milling and overlay of both the inside and outside shoulder to accommodate the addition of one thru lane for I-95 NB from the US 1 on ramp to Courthouse Road (Route 208). The improvements to I-95 NB will also require the addition of a noise barrier walls along I-95 SB for a length of approximately 4,700 feet.
The Route 7 Corridor Improvements project holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on May 22, 2024.
The project widened Route 7 from four to six lanes between Reston Avenue and Jarrett Valley Drive. As a result, Route 7 is continuously at least six lanes from Leesburg to Tysons, a stretch totaling about 20 miles.
We are pleased to announce that Shirley Contracting Company, LLC has been awarded the Fairfax County Parkway Widening Southern Segment Design-Build Project by the Virginia Department of Transportation. The project is located in Fairfax County and will involve widening of the Parkway from four to six lanes from south of Route 123 (Ox Road) to south of Nomes Court for approximately 1.79 miles.
