Shirley Receives VDOT 2025 Environmental Performance Program Award for the Route 7 Corridor Improvements Project at VTCA
Congratulations and thank you to the #VDOT and Shirley Team on being awarded VDOT’s 2025 Environmental Performance Program Award for the Route 7 Corridor Improvements Project at VTCA’s 2025 Spring Conference. Hard work and dedication made this project a huge success for all!
The Route 7 Corridor Improvements Project widened just under 7 miles of Route 7 from four to six lanes. Route 7 travels through Fairfax County, bordering Maryland with close proximity to Washington, D.C. The route is six lanes for 13 miles west of the project, and at least six lanes for nearly 3 miles east of the project. Shirley Contracting Company, LLC served as the primary contractor, and Dewberry as the lead designer for the design-build team. They built 14 miles of shared-use path – 7 miles on each side of the road – to connect to previously-built sections. The project also included a $200 million upgrade to gas lines by Washington Gas and more than 7 miles of noise walls.
