RT 7 Corridor Improvements are Underway
The Route 7 Corridor Improvements Project is well underway. VDOT is widening just under 7 miles of Route 7 from four to six lanes. The route passes through Fairfax County, which borders Maryland and is close to Washington, D.C. The route is six lanes for 13 miles west of the project, and at least six lanes for nearly 3 miles east of the project. The design-build project team of Shirley Contracting Company, LLC as the primary contractor, and Dewberry as the lead designer is building 14 miles of shared-use path – 7 miles on each side of the road – to connect to previously-built sections. The project also includes a $200 million upgrade to gas lines by Washington Gas and more than 7 miles of noise walls.
